How to find us
The 2. Physikalische Institut and the other institutes of natural sciences and engineering are located on the Vaihingen campus, 5 km southwest of the center of Stuttgart.
Rail
From Stuttgart Central Station take one of the following subway lines (“S-Bahn”)
- S1 direction Herrenberg
- S2 oder S3 direction Vaihingen / Flughafen / Filderstadt
departing from track 101 (lower level) every 5 or 10 minutes. From the central station it takes 2 zones to reach the stop „Universität“. Therefore enter the numbers „002“ into the ticket machine. (Note: When buying your DB train ticket with destination „Stuttgart Universität“ your ticket will then include travel on the S-Bahn.) Get off at stop “Universität” (10 min. ride) and take the exit “Universitätszentrum” leading directly to the campus. This exit is marked as “S” between IWZ (Ingenieurwissenschaftliches Zentrum) and NWZ (Naturwissenschaftliches Zentrum) on the map.
Walk past the library and a BW bank and you will see on the left hand side the entrance to our building Pfaffenwaldring 57, one of two similar multi-storey buildings.
Our institute is located on the 5th floor.
Air

- Motorway A8 Karlsruhe <—> München
- At intersection Stuttgart take A831 to Vaihingen/Stuttgart
- Exit “Universität “ (see map)
- At the first traffic lights turn left into Universitätsstraße
- Follow Universitätsstraße (you will pass the S-Bahn entrance / bus stop and the approach road to Pfaffenwaldring 61) and after 1.1 km turn right into Pfaffenwaldring
- After 250 m you will see the building Pfaffenwaldring 57 (NWZ II) on the right side. Our institute is located on the 5th floor
- Parking lots are available in Allmandring
